You know when you meet people you know you’re going to be friends with? It happens just a few minutes into the conversation, when you’re excitedly talking over each other, wishing you had hours to spare. That was exactly what happened when I first met E + D. Or met I say, it was a Skype call as I sat in my office in London and them in their new flat in Sweden. They had found their way to me from Brollopspodden (the largest and best podcast in Sweden about all things weddings) and when they described their vision for their wedding, my excitement levels grew.
Borgholms slott, or Borgholm’s castle doesn’t have a roof, but magnificent halls that takes your breath away. It stands proud on a cliff on the large island of Oland in Sweden, hosting weddings and music events throughout the year. We had absolutely all types of weather in a day, ranging from brilliant sunshine to rain and hail and the ceremony plans seemed to change from minute to minute. In the end, just as E walked in with her bridesmaids, the sun broke through the clouds and lit up absolutely everything. Towards the end of the ceremony, strong winds grabbed hold of her veil and just a few minutes later, the rain came.
Laughter, great food, dance, tears and cheers filled the magnificent cellar holding their wedding breakfast. I loved, loved, loved photographing this wedding and these people.
Late summer London engagement shoots must be one of my favourite ways to spend an evening. Especially when I get to meet a couple as lovely as this. A + W’s shoot took us to some of my favourite London landmarks in engagement photography in London filled with light and that beautiful architecture. I can’t believe I have lived in this city for more than a decade now, when I originally only meant to stay a few months. The love affair was apparent from the start. I remember so vividly those first few years living and working in the city, walking past Buckingham Palace and St Paul’s cathedral and I felt like I was on a year long holiday. It was such privilege to be able to live here. today I photograph so many couples who has that special connection to the capital – having lived here, perhaps met here, maybe at a stage where they need to leave. Yet, celebrating with London engagement photography makes for permanent and tactile memories and I am so grateful I get to be part of it.
There’s something so romantic in the idea of eloping, just the two of you, to the Italian coast. This is exactly what C + S did, after ditching plans of a big wedding back home. Too much family politics and stress around wedding planning turned their thoughts to Italy and an intimate celebration (overflowing with pasta, sea air and Proseccco). I had the absolute pleasure to be their destination wedding photographer and travel out from London to Sorrento.
Somehow in the company of just the two of you, it feels even more grand when speaking the words and making your promises. It became all about the two of them – without distractions or “musts”. After their short ceremony at Sorrento Cloisters, in a day planned lovingly by Weddings By Emily Charlotte we went around the town to photograph them against the backdrop of Vesuvius. The finished their Sorrento elopement with dinner and drinks at Hotel Royal, where I left them, toasting on the deck, overlooking the sea.
